Lactated Ringer’s Injection, USP

Category:

  • Electrolyte and water

Description:

  • Fluid and electrolyte replenishment solution

Indications:

  • Source of water and electrolytes

  • Alkalinizing agent

Contraindications:

  • None known

Precautions:

  • Pregnancy category A

  • CHF, renal insufficiency, edema states with sodium retention

  • Hyperkalemia, metabolic or respiratory alkalosis

  • DO NOT administer simultaneously with blood through same administration set because of the likelihood of coagulation

Adverse Reactions (Side Effects):

  • fever, infection at administration site, venous thrombosis

  • extravasation, hypervolemia

Dosage:

Administered intravenously

  • IV: 

    • dose is dependent upon age, weight, and clinical condition of the patient as well as laboratory determinations.
