Magnesium Citrate (Evac-O-Mag, CitroNesia, Citroma)

Category:

  • Laxative

Description:

  • Cathartic

Indications:

  • Bowel evacuation prior to procedures

Contraindications:

  • Patients with appendicitis, impaction, intestinal obstruction, or perforation

Precautions:

  • Pregnancy category B; compatible with breast feeding

Adverse Reactions (Side Effects):

  • GI: belching, cramps, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, pain, obstruction

 

Dosage:

Administered orally (drink)

  • Adult:   PO ½-1 full bottle

  • Child:   (<6 years) PO 0.5 ml/kg to max 200ml repeated every 4-6 hours until clear; (6-12 years) PO 1/3-1/2  bottle
