Penicillin G Benzathine (Bicillin L-A, Permapen)

Description:

  • Penicillin, Natural

Indications:

  • Penicillin-G-sensitive microorganisms, refer to Penicillin G Aqueous data

  • Upper Respiratory Tract infections

  • Sexually transmitted diseases (syphilis, yaws, bejel and pinta)

  • Prophylaxis of rheumatic fever or chorea

Contraindications:

  • Never use IV

Precautions:

  • Pregnancy category B

  • Use with caution in patients with penicillin or cephalosporin allergy (5-10% chance of cross-reactivity)

  • Deep intramuscular injection only into the upper, outer quadrant of the buttocks

  • Shake injection well before administering  

Adverse Reactions (Side Effects):

  • Hypersensitivity

  • Gastrointestinal: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea

  • Vaginitis
